Celebrating 3 Years of Women’s Jiu Jitsu

Hey ladies, Andrea here…

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but… it’s been THREE YEARS since the release of my documentary American Jiujiteira.

Everyone receiving this email contributed to the project in some way OR has been a part of my jiu jitsu journey since then (hey to all of you ladies from women’s class).

Whether you were one of the stops on my journey, contributed a photo to the credits, took a survey, shared with a friend, or just watched, I just wanna say…

Thank you.

This project launched the start of my lifetime love for jiu jitsu, and I hope that in some small way it made its way into your heart too.

If this documentary even led to 1 woman out there feeling brave enough to begin this sport, then it did it’s job and was worth every minute of (literal) blood, (literal) sweat, and (literal) tears that I put into it.

In the 3 years since its release, the documentary has achieved 149k views on YouTube (um, what??) and brought in hundreds of comments from super cool women and also a few dudes who felt the need to mansplain some stuff to all of us about jiu jitsu… (lol, *block*).

In those 3 years, I’ve continued my (sometimes obsessive) pursuit of jiu jitsu. They call me a purple belt now, and I can’t get them to stop…

I train roughly 6-7 days a week, help coach men, women, and children of all ages, compete (a lil), and, most importantly, run a free women’s jiu jitsu class every single week at…

10th Planet Airlock. Yes, my husband and I opened a gym here in our new hometown of Bastrop, Texas, and it’s our daily labor of love.

The community has grown immensely, and most important to me, the women’s community is strong and representing.

But this project isn’t over. I want to do more. I want to bring more women into the sport of jiu jitsu…

So, I’m building the next phase of American Jiujiteira.

I’ll be sending updates and sharing news on the state of women’s jiu jitsu directly to your inbox (only if you want).

I’m sharing:

  • Your news. You send me your wins, your questions, and your breakthroughs, and I’ll share them with the brave women who are out there training.

  • Special features on the women leading jiu jitsu into the future, whether through team building, teaching, or competing.

  • Upcoming events happening in women’s jiu jitsu (both on the world stage and for my community in Central TX).

  • Winning techniques. And yes, I mean techniques that work on the mats, but I also want to know what techniques you’re using to build up women’s jiu jitsu in your gym and community.

Which means, I’ll need your help… See those? 👆 I need you to help me fill in the blanks. Send me your events, your wins, your technique videos, and I’ll share them with everyone.

But even if you don’t have those types of things to share…

I haven’t seen or trained with many of you for the last several years 😢 and I would love to hear where you are at on your jiu jitsu journey.

Did you stick with it? Receive a belt lately? Hit ‘reply’ and let me know how you are.

I’d love to hear from everyone. I may even share your story (with permission) to help inspire other ladies…

Not interested in keeping up with me? I’m not offended. Just hit unsubscribe and I won’t bug you (but I will still support you from afar).

Keep being extraordinary,

-Andrea
